Information We Collect and How We Use It
Credit Card Portfolio
To provide the core functionality of CardPerks—such as calculating your best rewards rates, comparing benefits, and delivering curated card news—we require you to select which credit cards you own from our database.
- What is collected: We only collect the name and issuer of the credit card products you select.
- How it is used: The list of cards you curate is saved locally on your device's secure storage. We use this list to filter the news feed, power the "Best Card" algorithm (which operates entirely on your device), and display relevant benefits details.
- What is NOT collected: We do not ask for, collect, process, or store your personal account numbers, expiration dates, security codes, or bank login credentials under any circumstances.

Receipt Scanning and AI Processing
- Camera and Photo Library Access: We require your explicit permission for camera and/or photo library. Camera is used to capture receipt images directly; photo library access allows you to select existing receipt images from your Photos.
- Receipt Data: With your permission, to automatically extract relevant spending data (such as merchant name, total amount, date, and item names), the receipt image is sent to a third-party service provider, the Google Gemini API.
- Data Retention: Once the text data is extracted and returned to your device, the receipt image is not stored on our servers. The extracted text data is saved locally on your device to populate your spending history and graphs.
- Location Data: With your permission, your location is used to provide nearby card recommendations and location-relevant shopping price comparisons. If you grant "Always" location access, the app may access your location in the background to send timely notifications when you are near a relevant store. You can change location permissions at any time in your device's Settings.
- Notifications: With your permission, CardPerks may send local notifications for nearby store card recommendations and return window reminders for scanned receipts. Notifications can be enabled or disabled at any time in the app's settings or your device's Settings.
Account Creation and Authentication
Depending on how you use the App, you may choose to create an account to authenticate your identity, and secure your login session using third-party authentication service (such as “Sign in with Apple” or “Google”). If you utilize this feature, third-party authentication service handles the authentication, and we only receive the specific information you authorize these services to share with us (such as an email address, which you can choose to hide).
Usage Data and Analytics
- Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
